The Ukrainian-American project Aircraft Engineering Education Renovation (uCAREER), implemented with the participation of Progresstech Ukraine, has been completed.

The uCAREER project, which launched in November 2023, aims to popularize and increase the efficiency of engineering education in Ukraine. Among its tasks is implementing innovative educational certificate programs (CPs) focused on the aviation industry’s real needs and employers’ requests.

In particular, the project developers took into account the rapid expansion of using composite materials in the aerospace industry. In response, they increased the requirements for the level of knowledge and skills acquired by graduates to practically apply aviation composites.

In accordance with the uCAREER action plan, the current certificate program “Aircraft construction,” launched in autumn 2022, was improved, and the new “Manufacturing Engineering” program was developed. Both CPs are dual-form study programs for undergraduate students at the Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute (KPI).

The programs were collaboratively created by Kyiv Polytechnic University teachers and Progresstech Ukraine’s leading engineers with many years of experience in prestigious aircraft construction projects. The company’s specialists also participate in teaching thematic courses and conducting practical classes. One of the educational components of both training programs is industrial practice at the Progresstech Ukraine engineering center. Therefore, graduates have the opportunity to acquire specialized engineering skills based on practical experience in project work according to international standards.

In addition, KPI teachers, in collaboration with American partners, developed a number of advanced professional training courses for certificate program students, as well as the Ukrainian textbook “Composite materials in the aviation industry.”

The Aircraft Engineering Education Renovation (uCAREER) project was implemented under the Public Diplomacy Small Grants Program - EDUCATION for 2023 with support from the U.S. Department of State and the U.S. Embassy in Ukraine.

In Ukraine, its executors were the National Technical University of Ukraine “Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute” and Progresstech Ukraine, and project coordinator was the St. Volodymyr Charitable Foundation.

In the USA, their partners were the University of Arizona and the American Society for Composites, a community of engineers and scientists specializing in researching composite materials technologies.
