Anton Kulchytskyi: engineering has a chance to become the main driver of economic growth in Ukraine
November 26, 2020
Engineering in Ukraine has a chance to become the main driver of economic growth, the director of the engineering company Progressech-Ukraine, Anton Kulchytsky, is convinced. He substantiated his opinion in an interview for the online publication "Ukrainian Pravda " .
In particular, illustrating the impact of the export of engineering services on the economy of Ukraine, Anton Kulchytskyi compares the activities of a conventional engineering center and an enterprise belonging to the export-oriented powerful segment of the agro-industrial complex - the production of grain crops. Thus, according to his calculations, in order to form the same wage fund, an agricultural enterprise is forced to spend almost 9 times more money than an engineering center.
"And what is the wage fund? This is money that an employee spends on purchasing the things and services he needs. It is also money that, in the form of contributions, deductions, and taxes, goes to pay pensions and social assistance, to fill budgets at various levels." - explains Anton Kulchytskyi.
Based on the comparison of the specifics of the two Ukrainian industries, he concludes: in terms of impact on the economy, the annual export of engineering services of the company Progressech-Ukraine, which employs almost 1,000 engineers, is identical to the export of wheat harvested from a field with a total area of 4,000 square kilometers.
Anton Kulchytskyi, a 48-year-old scientist and manager, a US citizen, worked at the University of Alaska and the Arctic Supercomputer Center, participated in many NASA projects. 4 years ago - founded the American company Coupi with a branch in Ukraine, which provides intellectual services. In July of this year, he headed Progressech-Ukraine.
Anton Kulchytsky is sure that the development of the field of intellectual services also stimulates the high quality of human resources in the engineering and IT sector of Ukraine. According to his observations, young people with high intellectual potential, a responsible attitude to work and a developed desire to learn further enter these professions.
"The first thing I noticed when I started working in Ukraine was the high concentration of young people engaged in technical disciplines," notes the head of Progresstech-Ukraine. "Look, the middle class in the country today is mostly made up of engineers and IT specialists."
Anton Kulchytskyi considers the fact that a layer of people focused on innovation and professional growth is actively forming and progressing in Ukraine, a huge advantage that the state must take advantage of. After all, history confirms: promising countries are those that bet on technical progress. They change structurally faster than others, become economically successful and better for the lives of their citizens.
This trend was evidently taken into account by the leading aircraft manufacturer Boeing, which in 2014 started direct cooperation with the Ukrainian engineering company. Only a few years have passed, and the Ukrainian counterpart of the Boeing company, Progresstech-Ukraine, received an honorary award from its customer for exceptional efficiency and high quality of work, reminds Anton Kulchytskyi. Soon, the Ukrainian company became the largest supplier of services to the leader of the global aerospace industry in Eastern Europe.
In addition to the quality of Progressech-Ukraine services, Boeing also appreciates the strong position of its Ukrainian partner in the field of training qualified engineering personnel.
"Progresstech-Ukraine is actively engaged in high-quality training of engineers in cooperation with the country's leading universities. This enables us to vigorously develop business, to satisfy the request for the performance of a wide range of engineering works from our main partner, the Boeing company, - says the director of Progresstech-Ukraine. - We also we help preserve and develop the engineering school of Ukraine, strengthen the attractiveness of the engineering profession, create conditions for the sustainable growth of this industry sector."
